  Orgeat Syrup - A bitter almond flavored sugar syrup.
   
  Ouzo - Greek aperitif with a strong anise flavor.
 
P Parfait Amour - A type of light purple Curacao flavored with rose petals, vanilla and almonds.
   
  Pepper Vodka - A pepper flavored vodka. Can be made by fermenting a hot pepper in the bottle for a length of time depending on how hot you like your vodka!
   
  Plain - A drink without any additions, straight from the bottle.
   
  Port - A fortified red wine produced in Portugal.
   
  Pousse Cafes -Made from several cordials and liqueurs poured in series so that one floats on top of another. Each has a different color and specific weight that permits floating.
   
  Proof - The measure of the strength of the alcohol. Most countries use alcohol by volume (ABV), also known as the Gay-Lussac system, which expresses alcohol content as a percentage of the total liquid volume of the beverage. A 40% ABV spirit contains 40% alcohol.
 
R Raspberry Liqueur - A liqueur made from the distillation of raspberries.
   
  Razzmatazz - Raspberry liqueur made by De Kuyper.
   
  Rose's Lime Juice - A brand of concentrated lime juice.
   
  Rum - A liquor distilled from fermented sugar cane juice, fermented molasses, or a mixture of these. It starts off clear, and white rum remains so, generally being aged for about a year, while golden and dark rums gain color from cask aging from 3-12 years and/or added caramel. Rum is made in various geographical regions, made in sugar cane growing areas, with the Caribbean islands being particularly famous for their rum.
   
  Rye Whiskey - Whiskey that is distilled from a sour mash and must be at least 51% rye.
 
S Sake - A beer made from rice and originating from Osaka, Japan.
   
  Sangria - A beverage originating from Spain. It is made with red wine, sugar and fruits, and is garnished with fresh fruits and berries.
   
  Scotch - A whiskey that is generally blended from malt whiskey and grain whiskey. Single malt is made from only malted barley. It is only made in Scotland.
   
  Shaker - A tool to mix drinks by shaking, and or straining.
   
  Sherry - Name given to the fortified wines produced in Spain.
   
  Simple Syrup - A mixture of sugar and hot water.
   
  Sour Mix - A mixture of lemon juice and sugar syrup. Also called Sweet and Sour Mix or Bar Mix.
   
  Sparkling Wine - A wine containing a large amount of carbon dioxide, the source of the beverage's bubbles, so that pressure inside the bottle rises to several atmospheres.
   
  Straight up — the spirit is to be shaken or stirred with ice, but drunk by itself, with the ice filtered out.
 
T Tabasco Sauce - A popular hot sauce made from peppers.
   
  Tennesse Whiskey - A type of whisky that is produced like Bourbon. It has a smoky sweetness, and is considered by law as a separate category of whiskey.
   
  Tequila - A spirit made from the blue agave plant grown in Mexico. It must be at least 51% agave, as mandated by law, but it can be 100% blue agave. If it is not 100% agave, then it is called a "mixto," it is fermented from agave and other sugars. The different types of Tequila are white/silver, gold reposado and anejo.
   
Twist - A small piece of fruit peel that is squeezed over a drink.

  Vermouth - A wine flavored with herbs, spices, barks and flowers. Can be found in different varieties (red, white, dry, sweet, etc.), and is produced mainly in France and Italy.
   
Vodka - A liquor that is produced from corn, wheat and potatoes. It is refined and filtered, and distilled at 190 proof. It is colorless with almost no flavor or odor and is not aged. Vodka is the national drink of Russia and originated there from potatoes. The differences between various vodkas depend on the types of grains used and the distilling and filtering processes.
W  
Whiskey - Made from the fermented mash of cereal grains, such as corn, rye, barley or wheat. Its name is derived from the Scottish Gaelic word "uisgebeatha" and Irish word "usquebaugh", both meaning "water of life." Whiskey is generally a light or amber color. The actual color of the whiskey is a result of adding caramel to the whiskey, the whiskey being aged in charred oak barrels or a combination of both. It is generally bottled and sold at 80 proof.
Z  
  Zest - A small piece of a lemon or orange peel, usually the colored part.
