  A-1 Steak Sauce - A popular sauce for meat.
   
  Age - Used as a measure of quality as to how many years a liquor has been left to distill before it is bottled.
   
  Ale - An aromatic malt beer originally flavored with hops -now other cereals can be used for the fermentation.
   
  Alcohol - Spirits that are distilled most commonly from sugar cane, fruit, grain and grapes.
   
  Allspice - Allspice is the ground seeds of the Pimenta dioica tree. It is generally a spicy powder that would probably be best described as something that is close to cinnamon and nutmeg and would be at home in a pumpkin pie.
   
  Almond Extract -A bittersweet flavoring made of concentrated essence of almonds and usually used in baking.
   
  Amber Rum - Rum that has an amber color, a result from an aging process and a caramel coloring.
   
  Anejo Rum - Spanish for aged, or old rum.
   
  Angostura Bitters - A brand of bitter aromatic tonic used to flavor aperitifs and longer drinks.
   
  Anise - A plant growing in the Mediterranean basin, with licorice-flavored seeds.
   
Aperitif - A before-dinner drink; a drink to arouse the appetite before a meal.

  Banana Rum - A banana flavored rum.
   
  Barback - A person who helps out the bartender in various ways. This includes, but is not limited to stocking beers, wines and supplies, washing and stocking glassware and helping to prepare garnishes and mixes. The barback may or may not assist in the pouring of beers and wines and in some cases even mixing drinks.
   
  Bar Glass - A glass for mixing or stirring.
   
  Bar Spoon - A long spoon used for mixing.
   
  Beef Bouillon - Beef stock or broth.
   
  Beer - An alcoholic beverage, brewed from malted barley, sugar, hops and water.
   
  Bitters - A spirit that is used as a flavoring agent with varying alcoholic content. It is made from roots, barks, herbs, and other botanicals. Types of bitters include Angostura bitters, Orange Bitters, Peychaud's Bitters and Maraschino Bitters.
   
  Blend - The combining or mixing of liqours in production.
   
  Bloody Mary Mix - A mixture of tomato juice and spices that enables you to make Bloody Mary just by adding vodka.
   
  Bourbon - a spirit distilled from a sour mash, and according to Federal Law, must be at least 51% corn, distilled at less than 160 proof and aged no less than two years in charred oak barrels. It cannot be distilled above 160 proof and must be bottled at no less than 80 proof. Another requirement is that it must be made in the U.S. to be sold as bourbon. Bourbon is generally sweet, which it gets from the corn. It can also have a maltiness, which it gets from adding barley. The strength in bourbon is its taste of vanilla, caramel and oak, which comes from its aging process in the charred oak barrels.
   
  Brandy - comes from the Dutch word brandewijn, ("burnt wine"), and is distilled from a fermented mash of grapes, apples, blackberries, apricots or other fruit. A true brandy can be distilled from any fruit, but when the term brandy is used alone, it always refers to brandy made from grape wine. Generally it is aged in oak casks and bottled at 80 or 84 proof.
   
  Brut - A term to describe champagne as dry.
   
  Bucket - A term commonly used to describe a double Old-Fashioned glass.
   
Build - The method of making a drink by pouring all of the ingredients into a glass with ice without stirring, shaking or mixing the final result.

  Call Liquor - A liquor that is called by name other than well liquors. Examples of such are Stoli and tonic, 7 and 7 and Midori Collins.
   
  Canadian Whisky - A blended whiskey, is distilled cereal grain, (wheat, rye, corn and barley). It is made only in Canada under government control and is aged from 3-5 years. Canadian whiskey sold in this country is at least four years old. Canadian Whisky is spelled without the 'e' like Scotish whisky.
   
  Cappuccino - A coffee with frothy milk on top, sprinkled with cinnamon and grated chocolate. The hot milk can be replaced by whipped cream.
   
  Cayenne Pepper - A hot spice made from the dried seeds of capsicums.
   
  Celery Salt - A condiment generally used in Bloody Mary mixes.
   
  Champagne - A refined sparkling wine, produced in the Champagne region of France. Only champagne made in Champagne should be called 'champagne'. Other similar sparkling wines you may find 'methode champenoise', meaning that the wine does not come from the Champagne region, but that it was produced following the methods used in Champagne.
   
  Chaser - A beverage that is served with a drink, such as a mix soda or beer in a different glass.
   
  Cherry - A fruit of the cherry tree. They come bright red to black.
   
  Cherry Liqueur - A cherry based liqueur.
   
  Cherry Vodka - Cherry flavored vodka.
   
  Chicken Bouillon - Chicken stock or broth.
   
  Chicken Broth - Chicken bouillon usually served hot.
   
  Chocolate Brandy - A liqueur made of a blend of chocolate and brandy
   
  Chocolate Liqueur - Chocolate flavoured liqueur, made from cocoa beans.
   
  Clamato Juice - A drink made with tomato and clam juice.
   
  Claret - The name given to the red wines of the Bordeaux wine region in France.
   
  Coco Lopez - A coconut cream that consists of coconut fats.
   
  Cocktail Blender - The cocktail blender enables you to prepare a cocktails that includes ice cubes, liquors and possibly fruit chunks. A bar blender is preferred over an ordinary kitchen blender, as it has a bigger motor, stronger blades, and is more heavy-duty.
   
  Cocktail Shaker - A widely used tool behind the bar. It enables you to mix the ingredients for a drink and chill it at the same time. Half-fill the shaker with ice cubes, then add the ingredients, reserving the strong spirits for the end, which minimizes dilution from the melting ice. Quickly shake for about 10 seconds before pouring the cocktail in an appropriate glass. The shaker can be made of metal or glass.
   
  Cognac - Cognac is considered to be the finest brandy in the world. All Cognacs are brandies, but while the brandy may be made anywhere in the world, Cognac can only be produced in the Cognac region. A decree passed in 1909 delimits the boundaries of the Cognac production area. The Cognac region is located on the west-central Atlantic coast of France Cognac is made from grapes such as Colombard, Folle Blanche and Ugni Blanc which is double distilled in pot stills and aged in new limousin or oak casks for a minimum of one year.
   
  Cordial - A liquor that is sweet and highly concentrated made by mixing or redistilling neutral spirits.
